Noe is one of the shortest but raddest female riders in Uruguay. This lady has been skating hard every Uruguayan road for a while now and plans to keep doing it for a long time. This blondie likes going fast, predrifts and cooking (btw, she’s good at them all). We talked a little bit about her relationship with the board, her boyfriend, trips and the beautiful Argentinian mountains. Get to know Noe, a blond badass & cute smurf.

Hi Noe! Tell us your full name, age and location
My name is María Noel da Silva, I am 25 years old and I am from Montevideo, Uruguay.

When did you discover longboarding and how long have you been skating?
Four years since I first saw a longboard and two years and a half since I started skating.

What motivated you to start skating and what motivated you to keep on doing it?
Skating always got my attention but I never tried it until I started longboarding. What motivates me now is progressing, learning new things every day, overcoming yourself… that is what makes me wanna keep on doing this thing I love.

What were your setups? How did it change since you started?
My first board was a Loaded Tan Tien with Paris trucks and Orangatang wheels (Stimulus). After that, I started doing a little bit more downhill and that took me to get a board with no flex, I got a Raybe Baby Killer, Randall trucks and InHeats. Nowadays I have a Comet Ethos, Aera trucks and Biggie Hawgs wheels.

Why do you think that the setup started to change?
In my situation I think it was necessary. I started with a freestyle/freeride setup and now I use something for freeride/downhill, looking for something more stable.

What discipline do you like the most?
I like going Downhill and doing fast freeride. But by now I am doing more glove sliding, like predrifts and all that…that are things I like and I think they are necessary if I want to hit faster and curvy spots.

Do you know many female skaters at your place?
To be honest we are just a few girls or at least I skate with just a few of them.

Do you usually skate with them?
Even though I would like to, I don’t skate often with them due to my  job, college and stuff.

Did you have the chance to skate with many foreign ladies?
I did not, however I would love to. In my last trip I met lots of boys and girls because you know that you all have something in common: longboarding.

How do you see the female crew in the north?
I see it awesome, it is like, this is growing everywhere and you start seeing girls that skate like dudes, and that are the ones that bring the level.

Do you prefer skating with girls or boys?
I am used to skate with boys, I am in a team where I am the only girl, however I would love to have more ladies in here. It is just different, you have notorious differences between both dudes and ladies, that’s why I think it could be better having another girl in here.

Who do you like the most to skate with?
My boyfriend Nicolas. He’s the one that has been motivating me since the beginning, he makes me progress and of course, he goes with me to every single place. It is awesome seeing how he cares about me, how he teaches me everything he knows, gives me everything he has, wheels, trucks, helmet.. everything. We say that we are a team, we always have a mate to skate with, someone to take a picture or someone to give you a lift. We met through this sport and it is something that we both enjoy a lot.

Which trips did you do just because you wanted to skate?
Here in Uruguay I am used to go to Piria and spend all the weekend only skating. I have also been in Rivera, more specifically at the ‘Bajada de Pena’, we have been in there three times. And my last trip was to Argentina: Cordoba and San Luis.

And about your last trip…tell us a little bit about it!
Nico and I wanted to travel and skate…we thought about many places: Europe, the States and Argentina. And we finally decided to get the car and go to Argentina. First stop: Cordoba. The second day we spent there some locals took us to ‘Copina’ a place that I always wanted to visit cause I have already seen some videos and I wanted to skate it. We arrived, took our boards and suits and just went downhill. It felt really good. In Uruguay you just have a couple of spots and nothing compared to this, with both left and right curves and reaaally long, my legs were not ready haha. The days left we went to Carlos Paz to do some freeride. Unfortunately it rained some days so we could not enjoy that as much as we wanted. Anyways, we enjoyed that a lot and it was all new for me, all the freeride spots were awesome, fast and curvies, just paradise. After a week, we went to San Luis, specifically to Potrero de los Funes, a completely different place, we were in a mountain, it was still raining there so the first three days we couldn’t do much. Finally the sun came out and we went to meet some spots. We got to know some locals and they took us to ‘La Punta’ a route that goes through the mountain and oyu have the ‘Snake Skeleton’ at the other part. When I got there I was really excited but also a little scared, I was not ready to skate that place, even though I wanted to give a try…but I liked seeing all the locals and also Nico skating hard. After that, we met ‘Toboganes’, again, another fast spot, with predrifts and an awesome view. On our last day we were invited to go to ‘El Murallon’, a level 1 spot, with an average of 65 km/h, again another great oportunity, with a fully equiped curvy road. In there, we got to met all the people from the ‘Asociacion de Deportes de Gravedad de San Luis’, come really cool people doing all they can to skate safe that awesome roads. This trip got me really stoked, making me progress and know much more places and also people, no doubt this is the first one but not the last one.

Which other places would you like to skate?
I don’t know specifically now, but I want to get to know Brazil, Europe, the States, more places in Argentina and why not Chile.

Which spot would you like to skate hard?
Maryhill, I really like that place, I think it would be fun.

What about the spots in Uruguay?
We definitely need more spots to skate, or maybe we do have them but they all have shitty pavement.

What is you favourite spot in Uruguay?
I really like the ‘Bajada de Pena’ but I also like the ‘Cerro San Antonio’. I learnt to go downhill in there and is my usual spot.

What are your plans for this year? Regarding longboarding and life in general.
I want to train and get better than ever to travel and skate more spots. I would like to go back to Argentina.

Noe es una de las mas enanas pero tambien una de las mas radicales de las chicas de Uruguay. Esta dama ha estado patinando duro todas las rutas Uruguayas por un tiempo ya, y tiene planes de seguir por un tiempo largo. A esta rubia le gusta ir rapido, hacer predrifts y cocinar (que dicho sea de paso, lo hace muy bien!). Hablamos un poquito acerca de su relacion con su tabla, con su novio y sobre viajes, y nos conto un poco acerca de las hermosas monta;as Argentinas. Mi nombre es María Noel da Silva, tengo 25 años y soy de Montevideo, Uruguay

Hace cuanto conociste el longboard y cuanto tiempo llevas patinando?
Hace 4 años mas o menos que vi por primera vez un longboard y hace 2 años y medio casi que estoy patinando.

Qué te motivo en un principio a empezar a patinar y qué te motivó a seguir hasta ahora?
Siempre me llamó la atención el skate pero nunca me animé, después conocí el longboard y bueno, empecé a practicarlo. Creo que lo que motiva a seguir es el progreso, ir aprendiendo cosas nuevas todos los días, superarse, eso es lo que me dan ganas de continuar haciendo esto que tanto me gusta.

Cómo fueron tus setups? Digamos, desde el principio hasta ahora, como ha cambiado?
Mi primer tabla fue una Loaded Tan Tien, trucks Paris y ruedas Orangatang Stimulus. Después me pasé más a lo que es el downhill y eso me llevó a querer una tabla rígida, ahí me compre una Rayne Baby killer, trucks Randal y ruedas In Heat. Hoy en día tengo una Comet Ethos, trucks Aera y ruedas Biggie Hawgs.

Por qué crees que fuiste cambiando el setup?
En mi caso creo que fue un tema de necesidad, empecé con un setup más para freestyle/ freeride y ahora uso algo más para freeride/downhill, siempre voy buscando cosas para más “estabilidad” digamos

Qué modalidades preferis?
Me gusta el downhill y el freeride rápido. Por ahora con lo que más me defiendo son con los derrapes de guante, son trucos que me gustan y que yo creo necesarios si quiero conocer pistas rápidas y con curvas.

Conoces muchas chicas que patinen en donde vivis?
La verdad son pocas las chicas que conozco o por lo menos no muchas con las que patino.

Patinas seguido con ellas?
Aunque me gustaría no son muchas las veces que coincidimos para patinar, por cuestiones de estudio, de trabajo y personales no nos juntamos mucho.

Tuviste la chance de conocer muchas chicas de otros países?
No he tenido la oportunidad, aunque me encantaría, en este último viaje pude conocer chicos y chicas y eso esta muy bueno porque sabes que es gente que tiene por lo menos un gusto en común, el longboard.

Como ves la comunidad femenina por el norte?
La veo muy bien, como en todos lados del mundo va creciendo y van apareciendo pibas que patinan casi como los chicos, que son quienes marcan un nivel, digamos.

Preferis patinar con chicos o con chicas?
Estoy acostumbrada a patinar más con chicos que con chicas, pertenezco a un team en el que soy la única mujer pero me gustaría que hubiera más mujeres. Es distinto, hay claras diferencias con los hombres, por eso estaría bueno tener alguna que otra chica.

Con quien disfrutas más de patinar?
Con mi novio, Nicolás, es quién me ha motivado siempre, me ayuda a progresar y por supuesto me acompaña a todos lados. Es muy lindo ver como se preocupa por mi, como me enseña todo lo que sabe, me da todo lo que tiene, ruedas, trucks, protecciones. Nosotros decimos que somos un team, siempre tenemos un compañero para patinar, alguien que te saque una foto, que te haga un remonte. Nos conocimos a través de este deporte y es algo que disfrutamos mucho.

Qué viajes has hecho exclusivamente para patinar?
Acá en Uruguay acostumbro a ir a piria, pasar un fin de semana de puro patin. También he estado en Rivera, más específicamente en la bajada de Pena, ahí estuvimos en 3 oportunidades. Y mi último viaje fue a Argentina, Córdoba y San Luis

Y en cuanto a tu viaje más reciente…contanos un poco de él!
Con Nico hace tiempo que queríamos viajar y patinar, barajamos varias posibilidades, Europa, Estados Unidos y Argentina. Finalmente decidimos arrancar en auto a Argentina, primera parada; Córdoba. Al segundo día de estar ahí nos invitan a Copina, un lugar que siempre quise conocer, había visto varios videos y tenía muchas ganas de patinar ahí. Llegamos, armamos la tabla, nos pusimos los trajes y a bajar, se sentía muy bien, en Uruguay son muy poquitos los lugares que tenemos y nada como esto, curvas para ambos lados y laaargaa, mis piernas no estaban preparadas jaja. Los demás días fuimos para Carlos Paz a hacer un poco de freeride, lamentablemente llovió algunos días así que no pudimos aprovechar tanto como hubiéramos querido. De todas maneras disfrutamos mucho, para mi era todo nuevo, los spots de freeride estaban muy buenos, también tenían curvas y pendientes, un paraíso. Después de una semana seguimos viaje a San Luis, precisamente a Potrero de los Funes, un lugar totalmente distinto, estábamos en la montaña, seguía lloviendo por aquellos lados así que los primeros 3 días no pudimos hacer mucho. Finalmente salió el Sol y fuimos a conocer las pistas, nos juntamos con los locales y nos invitaron a “La Punta” que es una ruta que atraviesa la montaña, hacia el otro lado se encuentra la pista del “Snake”. Cuando llegué ahí estaba muy emocionada pero a la vez un poco asustada, no estaba preparada para ese lugar, aunque moría de ganas por probar, o por probarme, igualmente me gustó mucho poder ver a quienes iban siempre y a Nico pisteando como un campeón. Después conocimos “Toboganes”, nuevamente una pista rápida, con derrapes curvas y un paisaje increíble. El último día de nuestra estadía en San Luis nos invitan a una demostración en lo que es “El murallón”, una pista considerada nivel 1, con una velocidad promedio de 65 km/h, otra oportunidad tremenda, tenía un lugar cerrado y fardeado , también con curvas. Ahí estaban los encargados de la Asociación de Deportes de Gravedad de San Luis, unas personas muy buena onda haciendo todo lo posible para lograr patinar en pistas seguras. Este viaje me dieron más ganas de seguir patinando, progresando y conociendo muchos más lugares y personas, sin duda este es el primero de muchos.

A qué otros lugares te gustaria ir a patinar?
No se si tengo un lugar específico en este momento, quiero conocer Brasil, Europa, Estados Unidos, más lugares de Argentina y porque no Chile.

Cual es el lugar al que más desearías ir a patinar?
Maryhill, es un lugar que me gusta mucho, creo que sería divertido.

Qué me decís de Uruguay en cuanto a spots?
Sin duda nos faltan muchos lugares para andar, o quizás si los tenemos pero en malas condiciones.

Cual es tu spot preferido en Uruguay?
Me gusta mucho la bajada de Pena, pero también me gusta el cerro San Antonio, ahí es donde aprendí a hacer downhill y voy muy seguido.

Qué planes tenés para este año? En cuanto al longboard y a la vida en general.
Quiero entrenarme y prepararme mejor que nunca para viajar y conocer más pistas. Y como meta más cercana quiero volver a Argentina.
